The significance of Polyethylene

Polyethylene is a thermoplastic polymer consisting of long chains produced by combing monomer ethylene (ethane). The ethylene molecule (C2H4 is CH2=CH2) consists of two CH2 groups connected by a double bond; thus, polyphenylene contains the chemical elements carbon and hydrogen. Depending on polymerization, the process results in a different type of polyethylene.

Polyethylene is classified into several categories based on its density and branching. The mechanical properties depend significantly on variables such as the extent and type of branching, the crystal structure, and the molecular weight.

Polyethylene becomes a liquid when heated and freezes to a very glassy state when cooled sufficiently and can be re-melted and re-molded.

What are HDPE pipes?

HDPE is an abbreviation of High-Density Polyethylene. It takes 1.75kg of petroleum (in terms of energy and raw materials) to make 1kg of HDPE. In HDPE, the absence of branching results in a more closely packed structure with higher density and somewhat higher chemical resistance than other materials.

Why HDPE pipes?

With HDPE pipes, the polymer chain can reach up to 500,000 to 1,000,000 units long, and the longer the chain, the greater the number of atoms and, consequently, the greater molecular weight. There are other great benefits to HDPE pipes, such as:

  • Withstanding high temperatures (120 degrees celsius for a short period, 110 degrees continuously).

  • Being corrosion, scratch, and abrasion-resistant due to Polyethylene being an inert material that can resist chemical corrosion. Its corrosion resistance also makes it anti-aging.

  • Having high tenacity and good flexibility (beneficial for coiling) while being a tough material.

  • Being leak-proof, a reliable connector.

  • Having outstanding circular crack-resistant properties

  • Having excellent rapid crack propagation resistance in comparison with other materials.

  • Not promoting microorganism growth such as algae, fungi, bacteria, etc.

  • Having a low-temperature impact/brittleness.

  • Being lightweight, meaning easy to transport and install and easy for operation and maintenance.

  • Having great electrical insulation performance.

SHM Global

AlShair Group established SHM Global in April 2013, a Real Estate company incorporated in Turkey in partnership with other investors. The investment rationale is targeting secured off-plan Real Estate investment.

HDPE Pipes are diverse in their services. They could be used as:

  • Sewers (sewer water / sewerage / stormwater).

  • Agriculture (lift irrigation and farm irrigation / submersible pump delivery lines / suction and delivery pumps)

  • Sprinkler (field corp. irrigation / playground and stadiums)

  • Domestic (potable water supply / chilled water circulation / temporary supply water lines)

  • Industrial (transportation of crude oil, milk, pulps juices / conveyance of acid, alkies / all corrosive chemicals / treated radioactive waste)

  • Submarine and Under Water Piping (Effluent marine outfalls / canals under water / salt water intake liens)

  • Hydro Transport Pipeline (iron ore tailing slurries / coal and cement transportation / sand slurry in stowing mines)

  • Gas and Compressed Systems (natural gas and coal conveyance / compressed air supply)

  • Conduit (telecom cables conduit / power cables conduit)

Tahwelya &
Pipe Production

Tahwelya was established to produce pipes (convert HDPE raw material to pipes) for pressure and non-pressure applications in different fields such as telecommunication and electrical network, agriculture and irrigation, potable water and swerve, industrial gas, pipelining, etc.

Different HDPE Ducts

Plain Duct:

With high tenacity, corrosion resistance, extremely low friction, and flexibility, this type of duct is perfect for the construction of underground duct systems for fiber optic and copper cables in the telecommunication network.

Micro-Duct (Bundle):

Being bundled by an external jacket with various colors, the ducts (of carrying sizes) can be coated with an internal silicon layer (grooved or smoothed). These ducts can also be produced with copper tracer wire used as tracer wire to locate buried conduit.

Corrugated Duct (CD):

Providing excellent impact and compression strength with high flexibility and robust features, these ducts can provide a single and continuous duct laying operation from one point to another, e.g., manhole to manhole, without a cut. They can be laid directly into trenches at standard depths, even without sand bedding.

Corrugated Duct for Fire Retardant:

These ducts are meant for fire redundancy of corrugated pipes for continuous burning.
